Unlike many tour companies in town that allow up to 20 people in each group, my Charleston tour is guaranteed to have no more than 12. The most unique aspect of my tour is the high level of historical professionalism that I deliver to my guests. Earning a Ph.D. in history meant spending thousands of hours reading and researching primary sources in the South Carolina archives. I use the knowledge that I have obtained from that hard work and pass it off to you on the tour. Because I limit the number of guests to 12 and offer a tour that is 45 minutes longer than most in town, you will receive a degree of exclusivity and historical depth that is far greater than what is offered by the larger tour companies in Charleston.

We had a delightful time walking the streets of Charleston, SC with Eric. He was easy to ask questions and a have a conversation with. He displayed a wealth of information about the architecture, people, culture, and military while on the tour. I had two teenagers who also enjoyed this time. I'm confident you would experience the same on a walking tour with Eric!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday morning in Charleston with Dr. Lager! His knowledge, research, communication style, & humor made for the perfect historical tour. There are tons of tours available, but THIS is the one you want to book! We saw a few other tour groups along the way & noticed that those participants couldn’t help but listen in to Dr. Lager as they passed by. A nice feature of this tour is that it is purposely kept small & intimate (no more than 10–although if you’re a larger family or group, don’t hesitate to contact him to see if he can accommodate you!) Our family of 5 appreciated this personal touch— & Dr. Lager interacted with our 3 teens, keeping them interested & engaged the whole time. In addition to the history, you will learn about the city’s architecture, local culture, & places to explore further if you plan to stay in town the rest of the day. Because we toured on a Sunday morning, we were treated to the sounds of choirs & bells ringing from numerous historical churches—as well as church-goers arriving & leaving services in their dresses, seersucker suits, & hats. Sunday morning is definitely a quieter day in town with less foot-traffic. Although we lucked out with mild weather, we were thoughtfully ushered into shady spots & offered a 5-minute bathroom break halfway through our time together. At the end of the tour, Dr. Lager offers participants his card & the opportunity to contact him “2 days, 2 months, even 2 years from now” with any questions that might come up. Dr. Lager is a true historian with a passion for sharing his wealth of well-researched knowledge about this beautiful historic city—we are so glad we chose this tour over any other!

Absolutely loved the tour and would recommend it to everyone. Super informative and ton of fun. We also loved the small group aspect. Allowed for a lot of personal interaction and the ability to ask questions. Definitely do this tour over any other you may be considering. You won’t be disappointed!
