Chennai city tour is a cultural immersion in the company of a cultural evangelist and an experience of a lifetime. Learn the science behind the rituals and role of temple in modern Indian society. We also visit  San Thome Basilica to see the relics of St Thomas who came here 2000 years ago. The other experience includes  Ramakrishna Math the monastic organization and Fort Saint George which provides a vivid history of how the East India Company came as traders and became the rulers of India.

    We head towards Mylapore an ancient residential neighborhood of Chennai whose history goes back to Roman times when it used to trade pepper and fine cloth with Rome for Gold! We visit the magnificent Kapaleeshwar temple. Built in the 7th century this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in Dravidian style architecture it has a towering “Gopuram”. Guests can expect a mesmerizing experience of rituals and serenity inside the temple. Our cultural evangelist will demystify the happenings in the temple!

    We visit a unique monastic organization called Ramakrishna Math, dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna the 19th century saint. Guests will get to see the universal temple, the shrine, a beautiful Mantapam, a multimedia museum and an enchanting library.

The other two are St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, and Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain.

    Fort St George is the first English Fortress built in 1644 by the East India Company. We will visit St Mary’s Church, the oldest Anglican Church of India. Our cultural evangelist will take you to a quaint museum rich with relics of the colonial times and retell the story of how the East Indian company morphed from a trading company into the ruler of India!

We spent a fantastic few hours with Kannan exploring Chennai city and learning about its fascinating history. Such a colorful and vibrant city, with so much to offer. Kannan was the prefect guide, informative and engaging, and we all felt we learnt a great deal from him. We don’t often get family photos so wonderful that we have some great ones he took for us with all the great backgrounds. Highly recommend.

Thanks to the "5 Senses Walk" team for the tour. My guide Kannan, very friendly and very knowledgeable not only about Chennai but also about Indian history and many traditions. I only had a 10 hour layover in Chennai and if it had not been for "5 Senses" it would have been impossible to tour the city and get to the airport on time. I was traveling alone and it was perfect for me. What I liked the most was the visit to 3 temples very different from each other, and Kannan's explanations were amazing. Also, it was very interesting to learn about Saint Thomas. The lunch was incredible, a place where there were only locals and the food was delicious, I recommend that you prepare yourselves because it is a lot of food and very tasty.

Great tour of Chennai. Tour guide Kannan was very knowledgeable and shared that knowledge with us. We had limited time in Chennai and Kannan was able to give us a great overview of the city. We used 5 Senses Tours for various trips (Mysore, Hampi, Mahabalipuram, Pondicherry and Chennai) while visiting India and each tour exceeded our expectations. Would definitely recommend them.
