Had a fabulous time doing the ATV tour with 8 adventures, my guide was amazing, always checking that I was doing okay with the ride. Seeing the elephants by the river was amazing and the view from the top of the village on mountain was fantastic. The waterfall stop on the way back was also really pretty. Overall a great tour that I would recommend. Also all the staff at base we so nice and transport to and from old town was super comfortable!

We were collected on time from our hotel by a friendly driver in a nice air-conditioned van and collected more clients from other hotels before travelling about an hour to the HQ in the countryside. The scenery en-route was lovely. Once we arrived, each party was taken to their allocated table in the shade to complete the relevant paperwork and given a drink. There were parties there for trekking, ATVs and rafting.
A guide took us to the ATV area to be kitted out with protective clothing and helmets. The guide (I feel awful as I can’t remember his name but he was so lovely and patient) then gave us a demonstration on how the ATVs work and allocated us one each. There were four of us in our group & we all set off on the practice route within the grounds. I have never done this before and felt quite apprehensive as to whether I would be able to ride one and secondly, keep up with the others (being mid 50’s!!). I found the practice track quite challenging to start with but once I’d been round twice, I felt more at ease! We then set off, leaving the compound onto the open road before going onto tracks across the countryside. My right palm was hurting quite quickly (probably as I was holding the handle so tightly!) and the guide arranged for one of the others to go and buy me a pair of gloves which arrived very quickly and were perfect for the session. My husband who was travelling behind, me told me to relax and drop my shoulders and not hold the handlebars as tightly!! The guide rode in front of the four of us with another riding at the rear.
We rode through scrubland and woods before coming to an opening, where we were told to slow down, stop and turn our engines off and in the distance I could see an elephant walking towards us. We sat and waited whilst it past and I was in absolute awe at this sight. Shortly afterwards four more walked past and it was just the most magnificent thing. We then carried on before we stopped for a drink by the water’s edge. Setting off through the river was amazing and on terrain which I didn’t believe I’d be able to go on, but I was off!!! And for those old enough to remember the tv programme ‘Banana Splits’ this is what it reminded me of and I was humming the theme tune out loud and laughing as we were going along, now I’d overcome my nerves and feeling a lot more confident!!
We then rode along a road for quite a while with hardly any traffic, admiring the beautiful scenery and river below before heading back to HQ. When we arrived back we ditched our protective clothing, washed our hands and headed back to our table where the staff brought us a delicious homemade freshly prepared lunch, a chicken escalope with salad and rice, soup and pineapple.
Unfortunately most of the merchandise they were selling was all smaller sizes so I wasn’t able to buy anything.
Toilets and showers were available, all really clean.
Shortly afterwards we were transported back to our hotel which took an hour and a half to reach town as the (different) driver was slower.
I had the most fabulous time and this felt like the second best day of my life, I felt so free and exhilarated with a sense of achievement. I am so so pleased I did this.
It was good value for money.
The two guides we had were superb and the rest of the staff looked very hard working in their roles too.
We bought the professional photos taken by the staff.
What an amazing time we had - and my husband stayed to do the rafting.
