Journey through the rainforest, high up in the mountains east of Chiang Mai on this 1 day trip in and around Mae Kampong. We'll explore a stunning village nestled among towering mountains, meet and have a chat with the locals and enjoy some local treats and even have a chance at spotting gibbons in the wild! Before we arrive at the village we'll go for a short hike to try and spot the resident gibbons, these majestic creatures were released in the past as part of a rehabilitation project and now live in a secluded area known to only a few people. We'll continue to journey up into Mae Kampong and enjoy a wander around the network of streets before the jungle hike begins. The hike takes you along a secluded 3km trail through the forest, which is seldom visited and not well known except to locals. We'll see one of the oldest trees in Chiang Mai, and the local guide will explain about the flora and fauna along the way. Then it's time for lunch before returning to the city!

    After an hour drive we arrive in Mae Kampong village. We will explore the intricate network of alleys in this beautiful village before heading into the jungle to explore a seldom visited trail with ancient trees, streams and verdant jungle.

    Hike up Mae Kampong waterfall and cool off in refreshing pools and enjoy a coffee in a delightful coffee shop looking over the village.

What a truly spectacular experience trekking in Mae Kampong, this was a unique adventure with Suwanus who was an amazing guide and passionate about the outdoors. We were unfortunate not to see the gibbon but met the caretaker who is supported through Eco Tours Chiang Mai. The hiking trail is beautiful and is full of life even in the dry month of April, we got to cool off in the waterfall too so I highly recommend this trip if you're looking to escape the heat of the city and knowing that the tour fee supports wildlife as well as the community is an added bonus!

We really enjoyed our trip with Suwanus. She took us to two wonderful waterfalls and to Doi Inthanon and after that to a rural area where great coffee is produced. Suwanus was very friendly, funny and explained a lot about culture and traditions on the way. And on top she took a lot of pictures of us with her camera that she provided to us after the trip. We had a great day and would always come back! Thank you for the very nice day!
