This exclusive experience is aimed at those who are passionate about textiles and embroidery. We are going to visit two main villages San Andres Larainzar and Zinacantan, where artisans are dedicated to manufacturing textiles on the backstrap loom, an instrument that comes from pre-Hispanic times, and embroidery. An exclusive experience of visiting an excellent artisan master in her house-workshop which you would not do on your own. She will explain us about simbolism and native plants dyes. Subject to availibility, we may visit a mayan family that dedicates to fabrics made of sheep wool. During this tour you will get to know a little of the social context and we will get closer to the living culture, always in a respectful way, in addition to being able to admire a rural landscape of the Highlands of Chiapas with exuberant vegetation.     Primero nos dirigimos a SAN ANDRES LARRAINZAR, pueblo tzotzil ubicado dentro de un paisaje pintoresco de las montañas. Durante una hora de viaje podrás admirar la belleza de la exuberante vegetación y paisaje rural. En el pueblo de Larrainzar vamos a visitar el Parador Artesanal creado por las artesanas de la zona. Vamos a verlas trabajando en el telar de cintura, platicar y preguntar. Después visitaremos una maestra de textiles y podras probar el telar tu mismo! Haremos una breve parada en la plazuela del pueblo y su iglesia. Larrainzar tuvo un papel destacado durante el levantamiento zapatista en 1994, ya que fue en la cabecera de este municipio donde se firmaron los Acuerdos de San Andrés, es decir, el convenio establecido entre el Gobierno Mexicano y el E.Z.L.N. para dar fin a la guerra.

Fantastic experience with Rodolfo. His knowledge and passion for the beautiful indigenous people is inspiring. We learned so much and visiting with the people was so heartwarming and special???? I am an avid traveler here in Mexico???????? I highly recommend this experience ????????????????????????????

I do not usually take tours when I travel. But i am so glad we decided to take this adventure with Rudi. The first thing that i loved was the intimate size (3 of us), and that we travelled in a very comfortable SUV, instead of a large van with many people. It was so comfortable and conducive to lots of interesting conversations. I am so glad we went with Rudi because we had experiences, and saw things i wouldn’t have seen otherwise. The taller of the master weaver, Cecilia, was amazing, and she shared with us so many details about the textile tradition of the area. The second place we went to was equally as interesting, and very different from the first. Rudi was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Chiapas and the different cultures of the area. He was low key, interesting and easy to have interesting conversation with. If you are looking for a guide to enhance your San Cristóbal experience, look no further than Experiencias Chiapas.

I’m all the travel experience since I have had, this has been definitely one of the most memorable. If I could get some seven stars, this is, but I would choose. Whether you are a solo traveler, or family or a couple, do not miss this experience. If you are interested in the true culture of this area, indigenous, life, and the strength of indigenous women, this trip is for you!! Rudy is THE BEST!! This is not a touristic experience-this is an authentic experience.
