    Mileștii Mici is the largest wine cellar in the world with more than 200 km of limestone tunnels, 55 km of which are used for storage and production of wines. The cellars have a huge wine collection of 1,5 million bottles which is the largest wine collection in the world according to the Guinness World Records Book. Visitors have a unique opportunity to travel through the underground galleries with by electric train, car, or bicycles. The temperature is around 12-14 degrees Celsius and remains constant throughout the year. Well organised, good communication throughout. The guides was punctual, spoke excellent English and were insightful and able to give an outsider a good insight into Moldovan politics, customs, culture and mindset alongside having a good understanding of Moldovan wine, it’s production and characteristics.

The tunnels cut for a limestone mine are now used for wine aging and storage. Nearly 2 million bottles, 65 million liters of wine in casks. You can rent a niche in the wall to store your wine but you have to come personally to get it when you want it. Ended with a 3-wine tasting and bruschetta. My driver Mr. Mihai was great, he filled me in on the city and country as we drove to the site.

Had a great time - really interesting tour of a very unique winery! We rode around on bicycles through the underground tunnels, then samples a few different types of the wine :)
