Bioluminescence Kayak Tour

A Day Away Kayak is a really professional ecotourism company. I called several times, 1st to change my reservation (which was easily handled), then to check if we would go out as the day had been pretty rainy & we had to travel from south Brevard county & they were easy to communicate with every step of the way. The directions provided to the launch site were easy to follow & got us there easily. There are port-a-potties at the launch site & they were clean. Parking is easy and was uncrowded the night we were there (Monday of Spring Break). Chaz was our leader & Tanner was the man in the back of our tour & they made sure that we all understood how to paddle tandem kayaks, what to do if a manatee were to swim under us & what to do if we were to fall out of the boat. They were both very kind and professional (and funny). They both were also very knowledgeable about the Indian River lagoon & the ecosystem. They made sure that we were able to see comb jellies & plankton and told us how to be able to disturb the water so we could see them. After we had spent our time on the water & were on our way back to the launch site, 2 of my daughters dumped their boat (in Haulover canal), luckily near the shore (they ran into a tree & tried to make sure they didn't hit their heads & rocked the boat). Chaz & Tanner made sure to calm them down, insure they were safe & helped to get them up on the shore (we were very close to the launch site, so they just walked back). They were both very helpful and made sure this mama's heart & mind were at ease. We can't wait to go back on another tour with A Day Away Kayak, maybe a sunset or rocket launch? Thanks do much for a great experience in our backyard! We would highly recommend adding this company to your vacation plans!

Our guides Marc and Chaz were excellent! We were a family group of 11 people and went in tandem kayaks. They loaded us in our kayaks and made the experience very informative and fun. The kayaks are very stable and if you have difficulty paddling, they will offer to tow you. We sat and watched a dolphin hunt and frolick around for more than 30 minutes. We saw several manatees, though none out of the water. One manatee came right up to me and I was able to reach down and touch it. We didn't see any alligators except for the one that crossed the road in front of our vehicle on the drive out. We saw many different birds. The bioluminescence was like little sparkles in the water. Cool but not very big. Would highly recommend this tour for all kayaking skills.

A friend and I did the night time bioluminescence tour and had a blast! Our tour operator was fun, knowledgeable and very helpful with everything. We did this in September and got to see the Orion (Artemis) shuttle on the launch pad at Kennedy, the weather though storming when we left our homes two hours away, disappeared once we got on the water. It was a wonderful experience!
