The Santa Rita Waterfall is a cattle farm in the process of sustainable transformation. Within the property there are secondary forests and two rivers which flow into the Quindío River. By visiting this reserve we can enjoy the natural beauty of the cloud forest around Salento and support its preservation and restoration. We'll follow a path from the open farmland into the forest, passing through tunnels, caves and waterfalls, while we look for target species from the Colombian such as Andes Andean Cock of the Rock (Rupicula peruvianus), Cauca Guan (Penelope perspicax), and Multicoloured Tanager (Chlorochrysa nitidissima).

We had an incredible tour with Nestor and German! We saw the most species during this tour than any other birding tour in Colombia. Santa Rita was a beautiful reserve and we loved all the different environments it had to offer.

Tuvimos la suerte de encontrar a Néstor por casualidad en la calle, y terminar haciendo el recorrido con él fue un verdaderamente hermoso. Fuimos hasta el Valle de la Carbonera (también conocido como Tochecito), al otro lado de Salento, donde está uno de los bosques de palma de cera más densos, y únicos del mundo. Pasamos todo el día con él y llegamos a ver más de 50 especies de aves. Néstor podía reconocerlas al instante, tanto de vista coml por el canto, y sabía sus nombres en español, local, inglés y nombre científico sin dudar. Sus conocimientos de ornitología (y biología) de esta región son realmente de otro nivel. Tiene una paciencia enorme y no se detiene hasta que todos logran ver bien cada ave. Además, como nativo de la zona, conoce a fondo los ecosistemas locales —especialmente el bosque mixto con palma de cera— y sabe muchísimo sobre la historia, la cultura y los procesos que ha vivido el territorio. También se nota que le importa de verdad que el turismo beneficie a la comunidad local y no a operadores externos. Tiene una mirada clara sobre la sostenibilidad ambiental, económica y cultural. Una experiencia completa, auténtica y muy recomendable. Cinco estrellas se queda corto.

We had a wonderful experience! Ivan was a great guide - very friendly, astute at finding birds and making sure everyone in our group got to see them, and had fantastic English. Our group was a mix of folks who have lived in Colombia for a long time and those for whom this was a first trip, and we all thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Beautiful, relaxing setting and a great variety of birds!
