Plaza Matriz, Montevideo, Uruguay The Plaza de la Constitución or Plaza Matriz is located in the city of Montevideo, Uruguay, in the center of the historic neighborhood of Ciudad Vieja. It was the Plaza Mayor of the Fortress City of San Felipe and Santiago de Montevideo, in which it was the only open public space conceived as such.
