In this tour/activity we will learn more about Sarajevo's traditional crafts. One of them is of course the coppersmithing. We will also meet with our local artist, a coopersmith, and with his help make a small and unique souvenir for you to take home :) Coopersmith is an old name for a craftsman, who designs or modifies (modifies) jewelry and small ornaments of silver or copper. This craft is, in fact, a kind of art since small ornaments are made where inventiveness, skill and precision are needed. Earlier, hand tools were used and the work was done mostly by hand. Contemporary technology for the processing of materials and decoration making has recently been used. The coppersmiths also use various types of precious stones in their work. The most common products of these handicrafts are jewelery, such as rings, brooches, necklaces and bracelets.

    Kazandžiluk takes its name from the kazandžijas, master metalworkers and coppersmiths who first started producing kettles for the army and then later began making other copper vessels and items for everyday use (ewers, pitchers, coffee pots, metal table tops, trays). At the height of Ottoman Sarajevo’s “Golden Age”, coppersmiths were producing around a hundred different kinds of items.

i spend a great time with Sulej (the teacher) he showed me different technics of coppersmith and at the end i created my own personnal ring. He's extremely friendly and a good teacher.

It was awesome to experiene this local craft. I had so much fun doing it and Suleymen was a positive teacher. He helped both with the design and the technique. Circles might not be the smartest option for a first time but hey where is the fun when not challenge yourself and see what comes out :-) It pleasently surprised me. Afterwards when I was looking around and thinking about what to buy as gifts he came with the idea to design my own copper coffee cup holders (oi I forgot how it is called). So we came up with two designs and as a result I have unique presents for home made by a local artist. Absolutely recommended to do this!

This experience my partner and I did was amazing! I highly recommend doing this tour and craft, it’s something unique I wouldn’t be able to do back home. Sulejmen was super helpful, experienced and lovely we had a great time with his guidance and learnt a lot more about the Bosnian art, architecture and unique things about Bosnia and Herzegovina! This is a must do in Bosnia and Herzegovina!!!
