The full combo hike is a busy day with lots of walking, hiking, and 500 steps both down and back up to the waterfall. My calves were sore for quite a few days after the combo hike. I'm a senior in reasonably good shape but should have done some serious stretching that morning in order to warm up my muscles. Wear proper footwar for the volcano trail, otherwise you need to sign a waiver. I was surprised at the number of people who wore flimsy sandals. Walking sticks were also offered to those who wanted to use them on the volcano hike. The guide brings towels in the bus, should you decide to swim at the waterfall. I swam in the pool to the left of the waterfall as it was an easier entry. I recommend wearing water shoes or waterproof sandals, particularly for entry into the waterfall pool as it is surrounded by fairly large (and sometimes sharp) rocks that I did not want to navigate in my bare feet. Water was refreshing, much like a Canadian lake at the start of the summer. The day went smoothly without feeling rushed. I would highly recommend any tour with Canoa Aventura. The guides are very knowledgeable as well as considerate, thoughtful and well organized.
