Private Catamaran Tour on Marlin del Rey

We hired Marlin del Rey to take us and our close friends out on a private half-day charter on November 6, 2022. Sadly, we woke up that morning to heavy wind and rain. I grew up in the Florida Keys and am a very experienced boater - I thought surely, Marlin del Rey was going to cancel our charter due to the unsafe conditions of the weather. However, that morning I received an email that they were all set for us and ready to go. I told them we didn't feel comfortable going, but they said it was too late to cancel and no refund would be provided. NEVER have I worked with a sporting company that would not offer a refund due to unsafe weather conditions. A few of my friends and I decided to wait a few hours and see what would happen - the rain died down a bit, so we thought, what the heck? If they think it's safe let's go ahead and go. Only half of the original group went out the boat and it was a horrendous experience. The wind and waves made the boat extremely uncomfortable. Half of the people on the boat were vomiting overboard and it was clear the staff were very uncomfortable too. We also could not see a thing due to the rain storms and rolling sea. After about 45 minutes the staff suggested we turn around and head back in and we all agreed. On this half-day charter we were supposed to enjoy the following highlights: Snorkeling in crystal clear waters Delicious lunch prepared by our outstanding crew Tropical drinks from our open bar Wildlife sightings include dolphins, sea turtles, flying fish, or even a breaching whale Unfortunately, we did not get to experience even one of these things and what could have been an otherwise relaxing day was ruined by this companies insistence that we go on with the charter. They have offered us no apology or compensation. I highly recommend booking your Costa Rica charter with a company that will make reasonable accommodations for weather and who will ensure you are given the experience you paid for.

It was smooth sailing all day w Marlin. Nice clean boat. Engaging and skilled staff. Loved that we actually sailed and took the time to seek out wildlife. Good meal. Easy boat entry and exit. Beautiful area. Winds had stirred up water so snorkeling was not good. Did have good equipment.

Great boat and crew. The ship was massive. The food and drinks were good and plenty. Perfect day and trip. We shopped around and the Marlin del Rey was the best private boat out of Tamarindo and the best price. Thank you. Can't wait to do this again next year!
