On our first day in San Jose, this was a wonderful introduction to the city. The bus was double decker, with great views. We saw a beautiful historical mural of Costa Rican history in an art museum that was once the country’s first airport. We walked through the Central Market, had a meal of traditional food in a funky restaurant, saw the Costa Rica National Monument and went to the beautiful lobby of the National Theater. We ended the tour at the Gold Museum. On the bus there was a guitar player serenading us with Costa Rican songs. Our guide Hector did an outstanding job in Spanish and English. I appreciated his care with the group. San Jose isn’t the easiest terrain to navigate. The bus had umbrellas available for the inevitable rain. Without our own transportation, this was a fine way to see the city. Even with a car, I would not want to drive in San Jose! We were a couple, but this trip would be fine for older kids.

I enjoyed learning about Costa Rica through this tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and prompt to help us with questions. We stopped to eat local food at a very nice restaurant and enjoyed Casado, one of their typical dishes. My only suggestion would be to include a stop at the Mercado Municipal de Artesanias. Good prices and lots of stands to buy local souvenirs.

We got picked up at our hotel near the airport thinking it would be a relatively short drive into the city since it was after rush hour. We spent well over an hour to arrive at the Costa Rican national art museum where we met double decker bus. The Costa Rican art museum is worth a 14 minute visit at best. Our guide was very articulate but since it was bilingual (Spanish and English) it was very long on the talking. We spent a lot of time on that double decker, unconditioned bus with no leg room. We visited the central market and were left to shop at a souvenirs for 15 minutes. We spend couple minutes at the National Theater. We spent 15’minutes at the National monument. We had lunch at an overheated restaurant. We finished at the good museum. It was a one hour tour wrapped up in 7 hours of boredom. Give this one a miss
