On this tour you will take a relaxing riverboat cruise down the famous Tempisque River for an educational wildlife tour. A major feature of the park is the density and variety of bird species, a major factor in the creation of the reserve, due in part to its diverse ecology, with 15 different topographical zones from evergreen forests to mangrove swamps. Birds spotted regularly in the park include great curassows, scarlet macaws, white ibis, roseate spoonbills, anhingas, jabirus, and wood storks among many others. The park protects one of the most endangered ecosystems. It is one of the last remaining tropical dry rainforests that once covered most of Central America. Tropical dry rainforests now exist in less than 0.1% of their original size and are considered to be the most endangered ecosystems in the tropics.
The Palo Verde National Park, Spanish for "Green Tree", is a National Park of Costa Rica, part of the Tempisque Conservation Area.

Miller was our guide and he was fantastic. On the boat trip, we saw several crocodiles, birds, and monkeys. He also know good places to stop along the way to the river. He would pull over to the side of the road and point out birds (motmots, kingfishers, and several others whose names I forgot), iguanas, and monkeys. We stopped by a restaurant on the way back to the hotel and the food was delicious. Overall it was a great day with a great guide. Highly recommended.

We went to Ortega to the office where we met Maricela y Ruben. We got our tickets and Ruben went with us to the boat landing. He was very nice. Our guide and captain of the boat was Felix. We had a private tour as the other people did not show up. Felix knew a lot and showed us all the animals. We could stop to take pictures. We saw monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas and lots of beautiful birds. It was a great tour! Then we returned to the office in Ortega to have lunch. It was delicious!

Decided on this tour because it was a private excursion. Miller promptly picked us up at our hotel and we were off. Made a stop at a local park to see the lizards up close. At one point, I had five lizards at my feet. Miller stopped the car en route to Palo Verde to point out the Howler monkeys in the trees. Upon arrival to Palo Verde, we realized we had the entire boat to ourselves. The boat ride was the highlight of the trip, we saw lots of wildlife up close and at a distance. We had tons of opportunities to snap pictures of everything we saw. We had a fantastic time and were so grateful we had Miller to show us around.
