  • Rethymnon Old Town, Rethymnon, Greece
    Rethymno is the third biggest town in Crete west of Heraklion on the north coast of Crete. Here monuments of the archaeological, Ottoman, and Venetian eras co-exist. A stroll in the alleys of the old town, a visit to the Turkish minarets and the Venetian fortresses, or a coffee at the magnificent harbor are some of what you can do while you visit.

  • Lighthouse of Chania, Chania Town, Greece
    Chania is considered by many as the "little Venice" of Crete. Chania is the second largest town of Crete on the north coast west of Rethymno. The city of Chania is divided into the Old City, with the gorgeous harbor and the New City, beyond its Venetian fortifications. The Old City is one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean and is called “Venice of the East”. You can find Turkish minarets and mosques, Muslim neighborhoods, Venetian fortresses, dockyards, fountains, squares, arches, mansions, and the lighthouse. Visit the famous Agora (market), which houses traditional little shops and taverns. Here you can buy souvenirs or leather goods for very good prices.

  • Lake Kournas, Kournas, Greece
    Kournas lake a beautiful habitat with natural freshwater, one of a kind in Crete. The whole area of Kournas is protected under 'Natura 2000', as it's a designated wetland. Vast greenery, steep cavities between hills, rare species of fish and birds, make Kournas the ideal place to enjoy an early afternoon walk.

Although the actual places the tour stops were nice enough (mainly markets towns/shops) we spent about 8 hours on the coach. We had a broken seat in front of us meaning it kept falling back into my husbands lap. The tour guide was advised of this at the 2nd stop, but he did nothing about it & let the passenger sitting there continue to do so. I was on crutches at the time of the trip & there was another passenger with a knee brace so we obviously were slower than the rest but the guide went rushing off with the others & at one point we had no idea where they’d gone until another passenger came round the corner & said she’d come back for us as we wouldn’t know where they were. Just to top the day off the guide left the coach on the way back at the 1st or 2nd stop & said the driver would tell us all when it was our stop; well luckily for us my husband noticed when he thought it was ours & went to check & the driver & the driver of the next minibus said it wasn’t ours & he had to argue with them for us to get on the minibus to our resort!! The whole day out was about 13 hours, mostly on the coach, and not an enjoyable experience. I did send an email to Tripadvisor about this complaining but had no response so have to do this

This trip was a great way to see the Western region outside of Heraklion. The pick up was prompt and the mini bus was very comfortable. It was difficult to fully appreciate the beautiful coastline as it was cloudy and raining for the day. We felt the tour guide was a bit flat in his enthusiasm. Additionally, the 45 minute stop at Lake Kournas could have been shortened as no one wanted to stand around in the rain to look at it.

An excellent opportunity to see the north shore of Crete and to explore the old towns of Rethymno and Chania. Our guide was excellent and explained the history and key aspects. We had time to wonder around and soak up the history with time for coffee and lunch along the way.
