Crete’s most famous historical attraction, he site is considered to be the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on the island and is referred to as the oldest city in Europe. Knossos was first inhabited by a Neolithic settlement in the seventh century BC. It stayed inhabited for several thousands of years until it was finally abandoned in 1375 BC after its destruction, which marked the end of Minoan civilisation. In 1878, the first large-scale excavation was undertaken by the wealthy art-lover Minos Kalokairinos, while Crete was still under Turkish occupation. This was followed by the long-term excavations (1900-1913 and 1922-1930) of Sir Arthur Evans, who uncovered the whole surrounding area of Knossos. 90 minutes

We had a wonderful day with Christine! They picked us up at our hotel. The van was comfortable and the boxed lunch was delicious. We learned so much about Crete and traditions on the island during our drive. Our elementary age children were engaged the entire time. Christine arranged a guided tour for us at Knossos. The guide they work with is great with kids and very knowledgeable. We learned so much! It was nice to have a day where everything was planned for us and we could just relax and enjoy our time. Highly recommend!

We couldn’t have wished for a better day in Crete. Christine went above and beyond to make our day special. We were able to see Knossos palace and museum in Heraklion and still visit a winery and olive oil factory. She makes the drive feel like nothing with all her interesting facts about Crete and educational videos. Just couldn’t wish for anything better. Now we have to come back and stay longer!

Christine and Thanos were amazing guides and hosts for our day trip to Heraklion & Knossos. We learned a lot about everyday life in Crete,as well as a the history of Crete. It was wonderful to have 2 engaging and knowledgeable locals with us. They gave us lots of time to explore the sites and museum, guided us to the most interesting parts of the city and even helped us try to find a lost bag. I wish they could have accompanied us into Knossos site but they are restricted to staying outside. All in all an excellent day where we covered a lot of ground with 2 excellent local guides. Box lunch was excellent and drinks were a big plus!
