Agios Nikolaos, Greece The town of Agios Nikolaos is the capital of Lassithi prefecture and stands on the shore of Mirabello bay on the east part of Crete's island. The point of attention is the lake of Voulismeni, found in the town center, surrounded by cafes and restaurants. The lake connects to the sea under a tiny road blue bridge and has a historical and geological significance due to its high depth. In the town, you can find many shops and on Wednesdays even an open-air market bazaar. Take your time for a walk to enjoy the views, enjoy some shopping or have a drink in one of the numerous cafes around the lake.

Spinalonga (Kalydon), Elounda, Greece Spinalonga, the main attraction of the day, is a small island very close to Elounda and on the east part of the island of Crete. It is a place of historical memory as it accommodated in isolation people suffering from lepra until 1957. Through the centuries it has been inhabited by the Venetians, the Turks before it isolated the lepers. It has always been a tourist attraction, however after 2005 when Victoria Hislop a British writer wrote a historical novel “The Island” about how lepers lived on Spinalonga, hundreds of people come every day to honor a visit and learn the history of the place first hand. 90 minutes

Excellent guide (Elena or Helena, I think), who was informative, friendly and knowledgeable. Plenty of time at each stop, and it was a very enjoyable day overall.

A must for those who love history and exploring. Lots of walking and climbing opportunities, or just walk along flat surfaces, depending on you. Guides gave background information on the bus and let us explore independently at the sites. Coach was big, clean & had AC. Great way to spend a day looking at lovely views!

I'm a solo female traveller. They collected me from hotel on time by a very professional driver - so impressed the way she drove through narrow winding streets.
Met up with a very clean coach, climbed on board and started our journey. Their guide tells you interesting facts via a speaker system.
First stop - town of Agios Nikolaos. Very pretty, plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes, a lake and coast. A shoppers paradise. Lots to see.
Second stop a few miles up the coast where we could eat, toilet stop and shop before sailing to Spingalonga.
Boat journey was good where you can see just how stunningly beautiful the Crete coastline is. This alone I would recommend.
Spinalonga island is small, hilly and full of history. Paths are uneven so I'd recommend good footwear, not suitable for people with mobility issues. There's toilets and a very expensive cafe. I spent five euros on a can of lemonade.
Boat journey back to the mainland was fun, stopping so we could swim. Great fun.
Back to the coach for the return journey then the minibus.
I was collected at 0825am and got back to the hotel 0545pm. It is a long day, 2 hours plus of this is travelling.
A very organised tour with professional, polite, friendly staff.
Did I feel safe? YES
