The hike begins in the Laguna de Cucheros (height 3950 meters) Our naturalist guide will accompany us throughout the tour, which begins with a hike for 40 minutes to the blade/ edge (height 4080 meters) from where we observe the valley of Burines (height 4010 m) where there are several lagoons such as Burin grande, Burin chico, Ingañan among others; where we dive into the Andean pajonal while admiring the natural attractions especially the panoramic view of the sector and the canyon where the slope that will feed the Mamamag and Llaviucu lagoons descends. 180 minutes
El Cajas National Park, Cuenca, Ecuador The route leads us to the Mamamag Lagoon (3500msnm) which combines a walk between streams and a small forest of polylephys, as well as traces of pre-Columbian cultures on the Inca Royal Trail. Short stop to take the box lunch.
The trail takes us to an important viewpoint from where we observe the spectacular valley of Llaviucu We continue the journey through the Forest of San Antonio we start the descent towards the forest of Llaviucu, where the landscape changes drastically from pajonal to high montane forest. 120 minutes
Cuenca, Cuenca, Ecuador Finally, we will reach Llaviuco (height 3100 meters) which is considered the best place in the National Park for bird watching. This high montane forest is in excellent state of conservation, allowing to easily find very striking species such as the Andean Toucan Pechigris (Andigena hypoglauca), the Andean Pava (Penelope montagnii) the Masked Trogon (Trogon personatus), the Turquoise Magpie (Cyanolyca turcosa) and several species of colourful tangaras and some waterfowl.
The twelve species of hummingbirds recorded in the area are a sample of the high diversity reached by this group of birds in the montane ecosystems, and among these stands out the hummingbird Frentiestrella Arcoiris (Coeligena irie), the Rayito Brillante (Anglaeactis cupripennis) and sword Peak.

The driver was quick to communicate and promptly picked me up at hotel on time. He was very friendly and informative about the country and region. The hike was very nice and the guide at the National Park was engaging, informative, and made for a pleasant hike. After hike we enjoyed a nice lunch then returned back to hotel in late afternoon.
