An island village neighbouring the erstwhile Mumbai Heptanesia, Bandra or Bandor as the Portuguese called it, was originally a collection of 24 villages inhabited by the Kolis or the fisherfollk community. In the 16th and 17th century many of these villages converted to Catholicism owing to the Portuguese rule. These converts were christened as East Indian by the British and form the backbone of Bandra’s cultural ethos. The years following independence, the paddy fields and vegetable plantations gave way to bungalows and apartments, of the rich and the famous which made Bandra the Beverly Hills of Mumbai. Despite the urbanisation, there still exists another Bandra made of villages which reminds of the Bandor of yesteryears. This tour pays homage to the East Indians community - their way of life, history and culture.

2) Start time of the tour for North Mumbai hotels will vary.

3) If you are staying at the ship at the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal and need a pick-up from outside the ship, there we be additional cost of Rs 1000/- per person. This amount is to be paid in cash to the guide or the driver at the start of the tour.

Seeing these familiar sights through a new lens was really interesting and learning more about the events that shaped Bombay is a great way to connect with the city. KP was a knowledgeable, engaging guide and brought Bandra's past to life in a relatable way. Looking forward to more by Enthucutlet and NoFootprints Mumbai soon!

Knowledgeable and very well delivered tour from a great guide with a friendly, enthusiastic manner. We loved the insights and rapport. The only downside was that it was expensive, but Pooja is very good.

I ticked this one but really I did two and a bit excellent days pottering with Pooja Sinha Roy, moving around as the mood took. Can't be doing with dawn or selfies or whatever but she was fine with that.... cafes, art galleries, spices, Bandra village, Mother Mary [comes to me], rooftop sandwich, swapping language skills, Welsh for old English for Hindi and learnt how an ancient language deals with a microwave over. Micro-tourism. Mostly we talked and if I tried out any tricky socio-politico-economic questions she usually had a good answer. Llawr o pethau neis. Where was I? What was the question, again?
