This trek runs beneath the magnificent Salkantay mountain (20,569ft), one of the highest and most stunning in the Andes. The Salkantay Trek was recently named on the National Geographic Ultimate Adventure bucket list – defined as “The 20 most extreme, hair-raising, legendary adventures on the planet.” It is a trek open to everybody, and the most popular alternative to the Inca Trail trek. This offers 4 days of trekking through various landscapes including highlands, cloud forest, rain forest and dry mountain. Throughout the trek you have amazing views of Apu Salkantay, Pumasillo Mountain and Humantay Mountain, three of the most stunning peaks of the Vilcabamba Mountain range.  Our trek includes the services of lodging in a very nice hotel on the fourth night of the trek, a very unique coffee plantation tour in the afternoon of day 3, and dinner at great local restaurant in Aguas Calientes.

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
  • For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

I did the Short Inca Trail with other 5 travelers and we had Dario as our tour guide. He was absolutely the best guide I’ve ever met. He knew so much about the flora, fauna and Inca history. Thank you APT and Dario for making this trip to Machu Picchu once in a lifetime experience. 100% recommended!

It was an amazing experience, lifetime memories. Despite horrible weather conditions during the first two days, Christian and Eddy, our guides, ran an extra mile to make best of it! The whole crew including guides, chef, horse men were so kind and truly willing to make us enjoy this trip. I highly recommend it! P.S. a big 'thank you' to the team for sending me smth i forgot in one of the hotels, this is a unique customer service i've ever experienced!

The Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu was definitely one of the big highlights of our travel across Peru. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking and whilst the hike was challenging at times due to unexpected weather conditions, we were for sure rewarded with stunning views and memories of a lifetime. Getting to Machu Picchu early on our final day and seeing how the site revealed itself as the clouds took off was something very special. Our local guides, Christian and Edy were absolutely amazing. They both were highly invested in our well-being and happiness and went the extra mile in showing us the beauty of Peru. From fantastic landscapes, local flora and fauna, wildlife, and cultural immersion they covered all grounds. The food was outstanding throughout the trip, we couldn’t believe the abundance of delicious meals prepared by the local kitchen staff. The entire crew managing our trip was kind and supportive. The communications and the logistics around the trek were also spot on, from airport pick-up to arranging a group dinner for us post the trek. Couldn’t be happier with the overall experience.
