After spending a week in Dakar, it was a true pleasure to take an overnight road trip to visit Lac Rose and the Lompoul Desert. Although the lake wasn't pink during our visit, Lac Rose was incredibly tranquil and peaceful. The surface of the lake barely rippled as we enjoyed a boat ride to watch the salt being harvested with wicker baskets.
The Lompoul Desert features a stylish camp with tents, which I would describe as "glamping." Inside, there are large, comfortable beds, as well as a bathroom and a shower in a spacious white tent nestled among the large dunes. The camel rides were delightful; we ended up doing them twice. I never knew camels could be so cute with their long lashes and elegant necks!
The evening entertainment, featuring a group of drummers and singers, had everyone dancing before we enjoyed a fabulous meal of vegetable soup and couscous served with roasted chicken, lamb, sauteed onions, and tangy sauce. After dinner, we gathered around an open fire and sipped wine.
This overnight trip is definitely not to be missed!
