It took us about 300m walk in the hot African morning sun from our ship to outside the port where the car was waiting for us. Then it took another 5 minutes to find the car as our name was put inside the car so we couldn't see it. The car was an old black Toyota Alphard with very good aircon.
The driver (forgive me, forgot the name) didn't speak much as he was not a guide. We were on this tour without a guide.
First he took us to a fish market. Someone suddenly showed up and showed us around and explained everything in English. Quite knowledgable, probably a "local" guide. We tipped the "guide".
Then the driver took us to the National Museum of Tanzania, paid the entrance and accompanied us around. Quite interesting exhibits (including the Presidential Rolls Royce), but sadly both the museum and the exhibits are lack of maintenance and the place was rather hot.
Next was a some kind of a souvenir center with pricey handicrafts. We asked the driver to take us to a more "touristic" souvenir market where we could buy caps, flags, etc. which he kindly did.
After done with shopping, the driver said, "We're done, now I'll take you back to the port." So much for a "Dar Es Salaam city sightseeing private tour".
Not much of the city was worth seeing, obviously.
