This tour is mainly about the sculpture by Richard Serra. The breathtaking sculpture in the Brouq nature reserve in the desert. Ras Brouq – a peninsula located on the west coast of Qatar – bears the remains of prehistoric human occupation. The beautiful and iconic rock formations at Ras Brouq offer a glimpse of a prehistoric landscape. And in between you will get to see the Mushroom Rock Formation, Zekreet Village and Zekreet Fort Ruins.

    Zekreet is a village in north-western Qatar. Zekreet fort is on the west coast of Qatar, 90 km from Doha. The fort has a very distinctive layout that allows seeing the two different phases of construction. Originally, the fort was built as a simple square without towers in each corner. In a second phase of development, towers were added at the outer four corners of the fort.

    Internationally acclaimed artist Richard Serra adds the astonishing East-West/West-East sculpture to the desert landscape, taking art to the people.East-West/West-East has become a famous landmark in Qatar since its installation in 2014. This breathtaking sculpture in the Brouq nature reserve spans over a kilometre and comprises four steel plates, each over fourteen metres in height.

I wanted to see the Richard Serra sculptures in the western part of Qatar but ended up experiencing and learning about so much more, thanks to my friendly, fun and welcoming guide, Ali. He shared a lot about the local culture and the area and was happy to answer all my questions as well as personal anecdotes and history that made me appreciate Qatari culture and the land all that much more. Great communication before the trip to coordinate pick up and was very flexible and accommodating in terms of where I wanted to spend more time. Visited the camel race tracks, the rock formations, a few historic buildings, and the sea. The Serra sculptures were incredibly stunning to experience, as was the overall landscape, and Ali was very skilled in driving through the rocky desert terrain. The vehicle was also super clean, spacious, and very comfortable. He took great photos and was also happy to share tips and recommendations for other areas to explore during my short time there. Was an amazing adventure–highly recommend touring with Ali!

The West of Qatar tour with Mohammed was an incredible experience. He was so knowledgeable & informative. Climbing the rock formations was so much fun but the highlight of the tour was definitely the Richard Serra East-West/West-East sculptures. I would recommend visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon to get the best lighting & shadows. Highly recommend this tour with Mohammed!

What a great trip with Mohammed, cool to see a different part of Qatar. Mohammed is very knowledgeable and gives all the history and interesting facts from start to finish. Amazing to see all the camel's near the race track, and the mushroom rock formations are great to hike around and on. Richard Serra art is the real cherry on the top. Definitely recommend getting out earlier so you get the long shadows and good contrast between the blue skies, white sand and rock formations w the formidable huge sculptures.
