Imagine strolling the actual battlefield made famous by the films Zulu and Zulu Dawn! Imagine standing where Lt. Chard stood, or Lt. Bromhead, or Lt. Curling; imagine standing on the firing line at Isandlwana as thousands of Zulu warriors race towards you! On this amazing day tour you'll get to walk the very ground that the British and Zulu fought on. You will be accompanied by a qualified and passionate guide who will help you gain a deeper understanding about the events that happened at Rorkes Drift and Isandlwana in 1879. On the way to the battlefields your guide will point out interesting sites along the way and also get to experience the beautiful landscape of KwaZulu Natal.

    You will have an opportunity to view the site that the British so famously defended on the 22/23rd January of 1879. There is a small museum to explore and then your tour guide will describe what happened on this amazing day!

    At this site, you will get to walk onto the battlefield where on the 22nd January 1879, the Zulu army descended onto unprepared British positions and destroyed the British camp.

First, the trip itself - wow! Shelldon's knowledge of the timeline and events surrounding the battles is encyclopaedic and he absolutely brings it to life by stopping at key points and describing the battle plan, as well as the heat and deprivations and the vast distances covered. The sites are beautifully kept and quite moving, with wonderful little museums and even a tiny cafe. Secondly, South Africa itself - what an amazing country but experiencing major struggles with infrastructure and progress. Shelldon displayed a depth of compassion and understanding relating to these ongoing struggles that really helped us understand how people are trying to move forward. His knowledge of different cultures is amazing. Thank you Shelldon - a day to remember!

This tour is not to be missed ! If you are interested in the Zulu wars and the history then it’s a must . Our guide Brandyne was absolutely full of knowledge we found out so much and he definitely made the tour for us . It’s a long day but the views and the countryside are fantastic. You will get all the facts and all the history ,I say again do not miss this tour.
