This tour met and exceeded our expectations. Our guide was so knowledgeable of the history of the area as well as up to date in happenings in the area. We saw so many interesting small villages. The guide included all of our requested sites and activities and supplemented the tour with activities and sites he felt would add to our experience as requested. We spent a delightful educational and informative day with Robyn., our guide. It was the highlight of our visit to Amsterdam. Highly recommend this tour.
We were really looking forward to this driving tour, based on the description and all the positive reviews. I hope our experience was an anomaly, but I fear it may not be.
We paid nearly $800 dollars for two adults and one child, and I would have been happy with that amount, had our guide provided meaningful insight into Dutch history, architecture, culture…anything.
Murat (the guide) was silent almost the entire time we were with him, so much so that we were very uncomfortable and had him take us back to the hotel before the last scheduled stop. There are three windmills that currently produce three different products. He did not even know what the three products are. At times, it seemed he did not know where the car was parked, and he spent quite a lot of time texting while we walked around.
We stopped for lunch in a fishing village, and Murat sat with us silently. When it was time to pay, he did not offer to have his meal separated from ours, so we ended up paying for it.
Murat is clearly a nice person, but this is not his calling, and he clearly has received no training or instruction. Bottom line - we paid $800 for someone to drive us to two villages near Amsterdam.
The worst part is that when I raised our concerns with Ruud (Rudy), he only agreed to refund €50, because he acknowledged that we were not responsible for covering Murat’s lunch. I recommended that this experience be advertised as a driver service, rather than a tour, but Rudy did not acknowledge that recommendation.
Bottom line - if you sign up for this, you may be paying way too much money for a car service. Do yourself a favor and go with one of the many other tour options for Amsterdam and the surrounding area. All our other guides in Amsterdam and other parts of Europe have been professional, kind, interesting, and knowledgeable.
I am giving two stars, rather than one, because Murat is a nice person, and he did drive us to see the windmills and fishing village.
