El tour súper bien planificado, el trato de las personas muy amigables, los precios bastantes cómodos, las motos bastante bien cuidados.
I was in Ecuador for a 2 week volunteer assignment and was amazed how easy and reasonable it was to organize a custom 5 day motorcycle tour afterwards for the exact dates I needed. Felt a bit decadent with my own guide, but what a blessing. No getting lost, buddy system on the off-road sections and local knowledge about activities and local restaurants. Ecuador is amazing, in 5 days we saw the coastal region, high up into the mountains and volcano crater, and into the Amazon at a unique jungle resort, (no auto access, but bikes got down the crude path!) before going back to Quito.
Things to know. Wide variety of bikes, all seemed in good shape, I had never ridden a KTM so took one of those, but I believe condition of any bike would have been just fine. Soft bags were also in good shape, with good liners! I took my own riding gear, so I did not see their rental gear but based on what I saw at the office it would be fine. They seem to renew things when they need it, not long after. If you are travelling alone, they do have gps tracking, preplanned routes and good office support. Hotels were 2.5-3.5 stars and absolutely great in my opinion, but you can select higher or lower according to your tastes. Do take good mosquito spray and strong sun block. You can get extreme temperatures from 2C to +30C, scalding sun then rain in one day in short distances. A few of the high altitude locations, I recommend you take some of altitude medication a couple days in advance, because you can end up well above 3000 metres, you will be out of breath, but at least able to sleep and not have headaches. I had my full rain suit, but left it at their office because they had much lighter smaller quasi disposable jackets to take instead, so I was glad to save the space and weight. Also suggest you may want to have a water bottle or bladder with you, sometimes a long way in the day between refills.
Now a couple shout outs. First, Ana who manages customer service, was amazing to deal with from my very first inquiry. Plus, a few times when I had questions, she always responded within a couple hours, including on a Sunday afternoon. (What business does that?) Her english was very good whether using email and WhatsApp messages or on calls. Then my guide Mateo, really knew his stuff, riding and the local country towns and regions and was just great company. He was super flexible to modify parts of our itinerary as needed. He matched speed very well to both road conditions and my level of stamina, so I was really relaxed as we covered a broad range of road conditions. Also, Mateo’s English was flawless. Everyone else I met around their office all spoke some English and were consistently hospitable. This was my first time doing an organized tour and I really found it worthwhile, I hope to do this again in other countries. My sincere thanks to the team at Ecuador Bike Rental.
