On this incredible tour, we explore the beautiful Scottish Highlands seeing castles, lochs, sculptures and perhaps some ‘Hairy Coos’ along the way. Departing the historic Royal Mile on an air-conditioned bus we head towards the iconic Kelpies, where you can take a close up look at these magnificent sculptures. We make our way towards Balloch, situated to the south of Loch Lomond’s Bonnie Banks. Here you can explore and take an optional hour-long boat cruise on the loch. Departing Loch Lomond we head towards the quaint village of Aberfoyle before exploring the picturesque Duke's Pass. Passing through Callander we make our way to Stirling where you can either take a stroll around the city centre or visit the historic Stirling Castle. Heading back we stop to catch a glimpse of the famous 3 bridges that span the River Forth before returning to Edinburgh *Boat cruise and entry to Stirling Castle are paid for on the day and are not included in the price of the tour.

From the Wars of Independence, think William Wallace and Robert the Bruce to Mary Queen of Scots who was crowned at the castle in 1543 aged just 9 months old this fortress has played a major part in our history. If you don't fancy the castle you will have free time to explore the ancient city of Stirling.

I was surprised at how much I loved this trip - our tour guide Alan had a lot to do with it! Alan was knowledgeable and funny right out of the gate. We had a smaller tour with only 6 people: a couple and my family of four (two parents and two adult children). He wowed us with his knowledge on our way to Stirling and seamlessly wove history with fun viewpoints (like the Kelpies) along the route. We had a quick 1.5 hours at Stirling castle, which provided stunning views of the surrounding area. £18 admission to the castle included a free 1 hour tour by a castle employee. A brief tour at Glenturret and lunch at their cafe provided a nice midpoint for the day. Next we cruised on to my favorite parts of the day - a detour into the lower highlands and a light hike in the Trossachas National park. Even with constant rain taking in the sights of the lower highlands was an absolutely unbeatable experience. Very glad we booked the adventure with The Hairy Coo. Well worth the time and money.

So context is a bit important and I do want to be up front that the weather was absolutely dreadful, even by Scottish standards. Storm Dennis came roaring in and flooded a ton of roads and pelted us with constant torrential rain and wind. Obviously this had a negative impact on our experience, but our guide Brian did a wonderful job handling it and showing us a good time. He even went off track to bring us to a roaring waterfall that was ultra impressive as a result of all the rain. Bravo to Brian for thinking on his feet! Stirling Castle is a beautiful castle with stunning views and tremendous history, and course any trip to a distillery is a good time...but this one was better than most especially since they were in full production mode. One negative was that we spent only 10 minutes at Loch Lomond. At first I thought we had to pack up early due to the weather, but Brian said he usually gives people 20-30 minutes at the Loch, while we only had about 10-15. Neither length is enough to warrant putting Loch Lomond in the title of the trip. It's basically just a few minutes to snap a few photos before getting back in the van or bus. I would have hoped to have done more and learned more about the Loch.

Mister IAN was so nice and funny during our tour, He is great tour guide and driver ???????? Btw Whisky distillery was a nice stop.
