Gains was the best guide my wife and I've ever had, and our three-hour walking tour was the best walking tour we've ever had. We've had a lot of walking tours over the years, all enjoyable. This tour was something else again, and all because Gains has deep, deep knowledge of Scottish and Edinburgh history, a broad understanding of social and economic context, and meaningful insight into connections between many different things. He's a nice guy, an engaging guy, a smart guy, and time spent talking with him just flies by. On top of all that, this particular tour gets you away from the masses of people along Princes Street and the Royal Mile and takes you to beautiful places with interesting stories that are close by but easily missed. We can't imagine anyone who would not be very happy with this tour and with Gains leading it.

Chris was a wonderful guide who showed us a beautiful part of the city we would never have found on our own! He's cheerful and knowledgeable and so nice to spend time with. He was also really helpful with suggestions of restaurants and attractions for the rest of our stay.
