Our day started out with the tour guide Mohammed arriving 15 minutes early. We had a 7:30 pick up time, it was great having someone on time/early. We picked up another couple. My family was my mom, dad, myself, and my 11 and 11 year old children. And we were off to Alexandria.
We stopped for a restroom break about an hour into the 2 hr drive (best rest room we have seen in Egypt). We went to the Catacombs first, they were pretty cool. A smaller place but you go down and see some old catacombs. My kids liked how dark and cool they were.
We went to Pompeiis Pillar next. This was pretty to see but there is not a lot to see. It was really hot in August. There is the pillar, and an underground area that used to be a library, and another underground area that was a temple.
We went to the Alexandria Library 3rd. And took a toor of the library. We thought we would see old scrolls and books, but it was just a tour of a beautiful new library. Interesting, but we were hoping to see the old stuff.
Last but not least, we stopped atthe Citadel. It was a gorgeous orangy tan colored old fort. You get to walk in and all the way to the top. You can see all of Alexandria and the Mediterranean Sea. This was beautiful.
Following the 4 sites, we went to a sea food lunch, which was worth the whole price of the trip. We had shrimp and fish and rice and veggies and pita bread. It aas the most amazing seafood meal i have ever had.
After lunch we were on our way back to Cairo. We had a restroom break about an hour into the 2 hr drive, and this had a super clean restroom also. It was a roadside pizza type restaurant. Very clean and very nice.
The driver and tour guide were both talkative and answered all questions that we asked. It was informative, fun and a great experience outside of Cairo.
My family had a great time.
