Hello my dear friends,
From the start of our booking we had constant contact with Mohra from your company which was great and put us at ease.
Our driver,
Achmed collected us on time 5am, and he was a lovely man to drive us 4 hours to luxor. He kept us very safe on our journey which we were very grateful for (Luxor traffic is mental as they're are no rules) the car was comfortable and has air conditioning and we had a rest break during our journey (note: the road from safaga to Luxor only opens at 6am dawn so don't worry it's a safety thing with the Egyptian government).
Our guide,
Mary met us at the Karnak temple and was waiting for us on day 1. She was very knowledgeable and we toured at our own pace and did not feel rushed. We visited the Karnak temple EGP 450 each.
It was wonderful and hot ???? so bring lots of water with you wherever you go.
We then made our way to Luxor temple EGP 400 each. We were not charged for parking on day 1. This was a good visit and Mary was once again very knowledgeable and informative. Then we went for lunch on the Nile where we had a lovely view. From there Mary brought us to our 3* hotel (not 4* but lll talk about that later on as this is our guides part of review). Day 2 Mary met us at the valley of the kings she had been waiting for us after our balloon ride which was great (talk about that later). We proceeded to get our tickets and took Mary's advice to include the Basic ticket EGP 600 each, and Rameses 4 & 5 tombs EGP 180 each and Tutankhamen tomb EGP 500 each. We then got a lift in a buggy car up to the tombs EGP 20 each. From here we were allowed free time to visit the tombs and take our pictures and videos. When we were finished Mary took us to Habu temple EGP 200 each you here you pay for parking EGP 1000. This was a fantastic visit and we really enjoyed listening to Mary tell us about the history of the temple. We then made our way to the colossi of Memnon for a photo stop. After that we went to an Egyptian restaurant for lunch which was lovely. We said goodbye to Mary and thanked her for everything including a tip for her wonderful service.
Felucca ride
Was so lovely and enjoyable and it was just the two of us, we had a lovely boat man with lovely music and hibiscus tea for an hour at sunset. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Dinner
We had dinner on a roof top hotel called the queen's valley. The view was outstanding overlooking the Luxor temple and the avenue of the sphinx and the Nile we also had a view of the valleys. The food was standard, fare and good.
Camel ride
We rode along the banks of the Nile. We only did it for a photo as it was just to hot but you cannot go to Egypt and not get on a camel that was our choice and we could have done it for longer.
Balloon ride
We were picked up at our hotel at 4.30am, by the balloon operator. Took a ferry across the Nile and had coffee and cake which was lovely before the balloon ride. We then took a bus to the launch site which took about 15/20 mins when all the buses were ready for the convoy. (They are Mental drivers). When we arrived they were filling up the balloons which was something spectacular. There must have been 30 balloons. It's loud so don't be frightened as you get used to the noise very quickly. After a brief safety tutorial by the balloon operator, we took off before the sun rose and ascended to 3300 feet to watch the sun rise over the city and valleys of the kings and queens of Luxor. The pilot Mohammed Hamdy was very skilled and knowledgeable and professional. The experience was by far thrilling and exciting, but also very tranquil.
The hotel
The reason for 4 out of 5 was simply the hotel. It was not a 4 star it was a 3 star, we weren't they're long so we didn't see the point in complaining. The staff were lovely and gave us a breakfast box to go on the morning for day 2 of our trip. This saves some time as we wanted to get going with our tour of the valley of the kings straight after the balloon ride rather than go back to the hotel for breakfast, which is on the east bank side of the Luxor.
Overall all, we loved all of the tour and would highly recommend it. Definitely over 2 days though, and ask for an up grade to 5 star hotel for the overnight, if you like your comfort. I would suggest the Iberotel or similar.
