    The pickup will be at 7am by air conditioning car to go to the Dandara temple in Qena Governorate, the temple of the Hathor, which has been discovered. The whole complex covers some 40,000 square meters and is surrounded by a hefty mudbrick enclosed wall. Dendera was inhabited in prehistory, a useful oasis on the banks of the Nile. It seems that pharaoh Pepi I (ca. 2250 BC) built on this site and evidence exists of a temple in the Eighteenth Dynasty (ca 1500 BC). The earliest extant building in the compound today is the Mammisi raised by Nectanebo II – The tour guide will explain it in details, then you will go back to your hotel. Yay! No crowds! Dandara Temple in the province of Qena, Egypt, was one of the few places we visited without crowds. Perhaps this was due to this site being a bit of a drive from Luxor, or our 3:00 visit. This UNESCO World Heritage site is dedicated to the goddess Hathor. This temple complex has many astronomical references. The zodiac relief is a replica, with the original displayed at the Louvre in Paris. The temple walls are filled with colorful hieroglyphics, stone reliefs, and paintings. There is a staircase that leads to the rooftop and panoramic views. We had a knowledgeable Egyptologist guide who explained the history and significant features of the temple, which would be helpful to get the most out of this impressive site built by the Egyptians and used by the Christians and Romans.

You can miss any of the Aswan Luxor attraction but not this one a treasure to be explored and enjoy the artwork. Just 90 minutes away from Luxor. Good roads perfect security system on the road and near the monument.

We love the experience of Dandara. It was a magnificent and beautiful temple, with colours still present in its reliefs. Still very much intact, you could almost feel as if you are there in a procession to offer Hathor offerings. Despite being the younger of the many temples in Egypt, it’s so beautiful and those visiting Luxor must visit Dqndara in Qena, worth every minute. Ahmed or guide was very amusing and knowledgeable and made the visit even more entertaining.
