  • Temple of Khnum, Esna, Egypt
    Your expert tour Guide will pick you up from your Hotel in Luxor at the time of your choosing (see departure time field) and accompany you to visit Esna Temple, dedicated to the triad of Khnum, Neith, and Heka their offspring. The Temple of Esna would once have been built to a plan similar to the temple of Hathor at Dendera and Horus at Edfu but all that now remains is the hypostyle hall which was built by the Roman Emperor Claudius who extended earlier buildings. Esna temple dates back to the reign of Thutmose II (1493 to 1479 BC.) the remains of Latopolis belong to the Ptolemaic and Roman eras. The part of the temple we see today is around a quarter of the size of the original building. The site was remarkable for the beauty and the magnificence of its architecture. It was built of red sandstone on the west bank of the Nile. After finished, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Luxor.

Visiting the Esna Temple was a major highlight of my trip to Egypt this summer, and that is all thanks to Walid, who was an amazing guide. For starters, he was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and he was extremely knowledgeable when it came to Esna and its many fascinating aspects. He was also willing to talk about many of the other temples in Egypt, and I learned a lot from our discussion on the drive to and from Esna. Walid's deep passion for Egyptian history really made the difference in the trip and I'm very grateful for having him as a guide. I couldn't recommend him more highly.

Esna is an absolute must see if you are in Luxor, its only an hour or so away from Luxor and a pretty nice drive along farmlands. And once you get to the site the colours are like nothing else you will see in Egypt. This is because they are restoring it and doing an amazing job. Walled the your guide was such a nice guide as well, very friendly and knowledgeable. I was travelling solo so he helped me take pictures and we got some great shots, even let me spend a bit of extra time there as well. The driver was great as well. Overall, my favourite day trip on my holiday. And as its a half day tour, you have the rest of the day to do other things. Definitely go there if staying in Luxor!
