Hanging Church (El Muallaqa, Sitt Mariam, St Mary), Cairo, Egypt The most famous site in Coptic Cairo is the Church of the Virgin Mary, better known by its nickname, the Hanging Church. This name comes from the fact that it was built atop the walls of the 4th century BC Roman fortress of Babylon, the remains of which are still visible about Coptic Cairo
Although the effect is significantly diminished today by the fact that the ground level has risen over 30 feet over the centuries due to the accumulation of trash and dust, originally this church towered above its surroundings on the high walls of the fortress.

We had a wonderful time visiting the Egyptian museum, Citadel, coptic Cairo and El Khallili Bazaar. Ebrahim was knowledgeable and explained all the history and more to us. We had a great time with him
And nothing was too much effort. Well organised tours and enough time to do and see everything. Ebrahim is an excellent tour guide and I would recommend him anytime!

The Cairo city and museum tour was very insightful and a immersive experience. We were able to get the full experience of old Cairo and were even able to stray from the beaten tourist track finding new hidden treasures with our tour guide Nevine. To get the real feel of Cairo and it’s vibrant history I’d definitely recommend this tour!
