Aswan, Aswan, Egypt Depart Aswan at 04:00 to journey 280 kilometers to the stunning rock-carved temples of Abu Simbel. Relocated to the west banks of Lake Nasser, the temple complex is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the “Nubian Monuments.”
180 minutes
Abu Simbel Temple Complex, Abu Simbel, Egypt Abu Simbel is an archaeological site located on the west bank of Lake Nasser, about 290 km southwest of Aswan. It is one of the "monuments of Nubia" listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. And that starts from the direction of the flow of the river from Abu Simbel to Philae (near Aswan).
The twin temples were originally carved from the mountains during the reign of King Ramses II in the thirteenth century BC, as a permanent monument to him and Queen Nefertari, to commemorate his victory in the Battle of Kadesh. However, in 1960 the facility complex was completely moved to another location, on an artificial hill made of a dome structure, and over the Aswan High Dam reservoir.
It was necessary to relocate the temples to avoid them being submerged during the construction of Lake Nasser.

Our tour guide Mr. B and his driver, took us to Abu Simbel and the experience was awesome and one of a kind. Keep in mind, it’s a bit of a bus ride to get to Abu Simbel and your transport are subjected to local traffic. Remember to request for a wake up call before the day before so you don’t accidentally over sleep.
At the location is very warm so please bring extra water. Abu Simbel is very unique and a county gem to experience.
Please add this to your itinerary since you will regret not checking out this UNESCO World Heritage site.
