    Saqqara, the oldest complete stone building complex known in history was built, the Pyramid of Djoser, built during the Third Dynasty. Another sixteen Egyptian kings built pyramids at Saqqara, which are now in various states of preservation. High officials added private funeral monuments to this necropolis during the entire Pharaonic period. It remained an important complex for non-royal burials and cult ceremonies for more than 3,000 years, well into Ptolemaic and Roman times.

    The Pyramid of Djoser (or Djeser and Zoser), or Step Pyramid (kbhw-ntrw in Egyptian), is an archaeological site in the Saqqara necropolis, Egypt, northwest of the city of Memphis. The 6-tier, 4-sided structure is the earliest colossal stone building in Egypt.It was built in the 27th century BC during the Third Dynasty for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser. The pyramid is the central feature of a vast mortuary complex in an enormous courtyard surrounded by ceremonial structures and decoration. The pyramid went through several revisions and redevelopments of the original plan. The pyramid originally stood 62.5 metres (205 ft) tall, with a base of 109 m × 121 m (358 ft × 397 ft) and was clad in polished white limestone

Had a nice trip to Alexandria from Cairo with tour guide Hoda and driver Mario. This was our third tour with them from Twitter Egypt travel and as usual, Hoda was great in explaining about the history and significance of Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa and ancient Roman theatre. Overall, a pleasant and nice experience and highly recommended.

A perfect day from start to finish. Our very friendly and professional guide George was superbly knowledgeable and shared the information with us in a very accessible way. His English and Arabic are both fluent and easy to understand. Also importantly, the driver was very reliable and we felt very safe driving in the clean, air conditioned van. Whilst most people visit the Giza pyramids only, Dahshur and Saqqara offer much, much more and are far less busy than the pyramids in Giza. Make sure you go inside the pyramid in Saqqara to see the walls engraved with original hyrogplyphics. The coming into and out of the pyramid is also much easier than the climb into the great pyramid in Giza. We highly recommend this tour for a full appreciation of the ancient Egyptian pyramids.
