We will walk through the medieval historical streets and along the River Wear showing you the highlights of this beautiful historic city. Quirky backstreets, canny views and topical points of interest will be available to view. We will see the colleges of one of the greatest learning institutions in the world: Durham University and discover the lives of countless characters such as the little Count of Poland who played his fiddle in the Victorian theatre, some of the powerful Prince Bishops and the notorious coal baron, 3rd Marquis of Londonderry whose statue dominates Durham market place. A wonderful two hours. Ken is exceptionally knowledgable and goes at a good pace, allowing for a lot of questions and history to be included from whatever angle takes your fancy. There is a beautiful part of the walk along the riverbank which made Durham really very special. Strongly recommend this tour.

We did the City tour, plus an add on Cathedral tour with Ken on a rainy day in March. Ken is a walking encyclopedia, full of knowledge about Durham'spast and the many fascinating features of the city's mighty cathedral. Durham Cathedral is a Norman building constructed between 1093 and 1133 in the Romanesque style to house the shrine of St. Cuthbert. Given the persistent showers, we were glad we added the extra time in the cathedral as Ken's commentary brought the building to life. If you love history and want to get immersed in local lore, go with Ken! As an added bonus, take the 300 plus steps up the claustrophobic stairway to the cathedral tower - the clouds lifted for us and the views were magnificent...
