If York’s streets are haunted (which we believe they are), then the Ghost Bus Tour is their gleaming black chariot. From the moment it pulled up - a vision in polished black — it was clear this was no ordinary sightseeing trip. Our host, John Doe and Bob were masters of macabre wit, delivering history and hauntings with theatrical flair, weaving humour through the shadows so that one moment we were laughing, and the next we were peering uneasily into the darkness outside. The nighttime streets of York, lit by lamplight, gave the journey a certain menace, though much of the city’s beautiful architecture remained cloaked in shadow. It’s worth noting that a daytime ride might reveal more of York’s historic splendour. There were moments when the pacing slowed a little, and a few sound issues meant some lines were lost - but the atmosphere more than made up for it. With its playful blend of ghostly tales, camp theatrics, and sly scares, the Ghost Bus Tour isn’t the most chilling of York’s after-dark experiences, but it is certainly one of the most entertaining. Part history, part comedy, part haunted theatre - it’s a ride where the living and the dead share the same seat, and the spirits are given the last laugh. Well worth the money!
