I strongly recommend doing a guided tour. Me and my family did a self guided tour and occasionally overheard what the guide was saying; he was very interesting and knowledgeable. However, it had advantages looking at the prison on our own, we could go at our own pace. We had our teenage children with us who were just happy doing their own thing. The prison was very interesting and provoked a heavy feeling in places. The staff were super friendly. I would definitely visit again.

A different experience. Our dog was welcomed and we got warm welcome too. We signposted with interesting posters to read. A small cafe We got parked in street outside making access very easy.

The site is beautifully preserved, and the self-guided options let you explore at your own pace. Whether you're intrigued by the eerie atmosphere, the architecture, or the tales of hauntings, there's something here for everyone. Highly recommend for a unique day out or an unforgettable evening adventure. Just be prepared for a few chills down your spine!
