Uncomfortable Oxford takes a unique approach to the walking tour format - both fun and thoughtful, we encourage analysis and discussion about uncomfortable subjects within the city. This walking tour engages with the politics of memory in the city and university. It covers histories of empire, inequality, and race, class, and gender discrimination, highlighting how these legacies have an enduring impact on our modern lives. Discover Oxford's beautiful landmarks, colleges, and statues while going beyond the traditional view of the dreaming spires. This tour lasts for about 1.5hrs. We will walk no more than two miles, but please be aware that cobble stones and uneven pavement may restrict the accessibility of this event.

I would highly recommend this tour! Led by students, it captures the uncomfortable side of Oxford's long history, from murders, slave ownership and imperialism. It is an important aspect of understanding how one of the greatest universities in the world came to be, the sacrifices made by innocent people all over to make Oxford what it is. Shoutout to Julie, our lovely guide! She was very passionate about the subject, and always initiated thought provoking discussions on sensitive subjects. I also loved the group I was with; they discussed everything with an open mind. Provocative and illuminating in equal measure, I cannot recommend this tour enough.

Amazing walking tour with interesting facts and room for discussion with the group. A unique experience! Especially with the ongoing debate on how to approach difficult aspects of history that we see and acknowledge in form of statues etc. today, this tour gives the opportunity to talk about different views and options in a very friendly and respectful environment.
