We used Tarboosh Travel .com tours
After a recommendation from our Riad in fez, Abdul came to our Riad and explained our flexible itinerary, 4 day 3 nights Sahara Desert Private tour. He took a deposit amd gave us a receipt, the rest to be taken on pickup.
Our driver arrived on our agreed departure time.
We did a 4 day, 3 night tour. This we thought would give us an enough time to do the route from fez back to Marrakesh, without being rushed.
The great thing about having a private tour is flexibility. Our driver was friendly, knowledgeable, approachable and safe.
The first day was about getting to our hotel (which you can pick from).
So, the route to Merzouga is a long drive this was broken up with stops which were recommended by this experienced driver, and us asking to stop whenever we saw a photo opportunity.
We had a great little lunch, the food was good safe to eat.
There was a mix up on hotels, but the new one was rustic but ok and the food was also good DAR
TAFOUYTE
The following day as we had the longer trip, we had added (again, lovely to mix and match ideas into the trip)
4x4 ride into the sands and a local Berber pizza experience both added to our
Moroccan experience
In the afternoon was the camel ride to the tent. There was some confusion over this process, with bags and what would happen to them.
I would advise to take a small bag on this with medication, toothbrush and overnight stuff.. just incase you do need this.
The camel ride took around 2 hours to the camp, stopping for photos and the great opportunity for a sunset on the dunes.
When we arrived the luxurious tent had a clean shower and toilet and comfortable beds. (Surprising good)
Then food was served, again. Nice, and filling.
There was some local music by the fire and star watching.
You’re up early to watch the sunrise from the camp, which can be easily accessed from a small walk over the dunes, this is followed by breakfast and the return camel ride an 1:30 (hour and half) or you can switch this to a drive back (which ever suits you)
On arrive our driver met us and we started our next drive to the next hotel.
The driver was lovely and whenever we asked he stopped to take pictures of this amazing country he would be accommodating.
Lunch again was nice, and safe. These drives are long, so take plenty of snacks, water and other things to make them more enjoyable.
Our next hotel was ok, with pool. This food was ok, not a great selection. But, you are welcome to purchase extra food at an additional cost.
(Peale du sud) hotel Quarzazate the rooms were good thou
The next day we added a couple of things. The driver was very accommodating and flexible. Which you probably wouldn’t get with a big tour.
We went to do the cinema museum. This was frustratingly disappointing, they’ve got great stuff, just no information to back up the props.
This was followed by a trip to the atlas studios, this better executed. There’s a tour guide who’s knowledgeable about the sets and propers, backed up with his personal phone and the trailers to the movies.
The rest of the journey back to Marrakesh was again, flexible.. you can stop or delete stuff off the rough itinerary that’s on offer.
In conclusion, I would recommend this tour
The private driver was safe, friendly and knowledgeable.
The our hotels were comfortable, clean and safe to eat the food.
There were some communication issues, which I think were down to the language barrier, one was bags and storage, but these were quickly resolved with no drama
The main thing for us was the itinerary.. our driver made it a great experience. He knew what would we’d like and what we’d enjoy on our trip.
Throughout the whole process Abdul was in contact making sure that we were happy, if we had any issues and with the mix up on the hotel, he made sure the last hotel
Was clarified. He was contactable throughout the trip
We also had a separate WhatsApp group
With amazing driver Farid. So anytime he wasn’t with us, we could Contact him.
We had an amazing time, thank you.
Many thanks for a once in a life time memorable trip.
James, Josh, Fernando.
