My favorite museum in Florence. The Uffizi is essential and the Opera del Duomo is marvelous, but this museum is full of treasures on a scale one can fully take in. The courtyard evokes the building's long history. The sculpture room is full of wonders. There are small collections and beautiful pieces throughout. Some call it a hidden gem, but it is there in plain sight, you cannot help but walk by it. It closes early--2pm--so go early and linger until a late lunch.

This is a most spectacular museum with a wide varied of artefacts, including sculptures, paintings, frescoes, armoury, ceramics and the most exquisite ivory collection I have ever seen, many dating from centuries ago. You will not find this museum as busy as others, or maybe there is more room to move about. You enter into a courtyard containing sculptures and there are plenty of places to sit and admire the statues from afar. As with most places in Florence, there are many steps, but there are lifts if you want them. There are three floors altogether. You will need at least an hour and a half to go round this museum. It is located in the very centre of Florence, not far from the City Hall, Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio. Not to be missed. It cost 5 Euros to enter.

Our guide was excellent! He personalized it to our interests. Bargello is great to learn about the Florence's history and the Masters that lived there. It also provided a history of the Davids. Further, he gave us extra points about places to see in Florence and the best times to go.
