    Val d’Orcia stands out in Tuscany as being home to some of the most stunning landscapes in the region. If you have ever seen a postcard from Tuscany, it most likely was a photo from Val d’Orcia! Your bus driver will bring you by some of the famous landscapes, so be sure to have your camera ready! Your guide will point out the Chapel of the Madonna di Vitaleta, one of the most photographed spots in Tuscany. This small chapel contrasts magically with the bright, green rolling hills, and it is perfectly framed with a line of cyprus trees. Legend has it that this was the exact spot where Virgin Mary appeared to the shepherds. The bus will also drive by the gladiator’s home in Ridley Scott’s Academy Award-winning “Gladiator.” Although the film primarily focuses on Rome, the gladiator character (played by Russel Crowe) heads home in a serene paradise surrounded by rolling, green hills and cyprus trees. We recently took the Full Day Tour to Val d'Orcia and Gladiator's Fields with Wines, and unfortunately, it didn’t meet our expectations based on the description. If you’re simply looking for transportation to see the smaller towns of the area, this tour will serve its purpose, but if you’re hoping for a more traditional guided experience, this isn’t the tour for you. First, the description of the tour should be updated, as it is not what most people would envision when they read "tour." The guide, Marina, was understandable when directly reading off notes but had difficulty with conversational English. Unfortunately the majority of the time she struggled to understand what people were asking. Additionally, the tour is conducted in both English and Spanish, but several times, the information was provided in Spanish without any equivalent in English. Additionally, the lunch option was absolutely terrible. The wine was undrinkable and the entire experience was overpriced for the overall quantity and quality. As other reviewers have mentioned, the wine tastings were underwhelming. The servings were very small, much smaller than what we’ve experienced at other tastings, and this left us feeling unsatisfied, especially given the focus of the tour. Overall, we wouldn’t recommend this tour if you’re looking for a well-organized, informative, and enjoyable experience. While we appreciate the opportunity to visit some beautiful locations, the tour didn’t live up to our expectations, and we likely wouldn’t choose it again.
