In this tour we will delve into the topics that interest you most: art, history, archaeology, etc.
We will follow your pace to ensure that you have the most enjoyable experience possible in this unique hill town.
One of the Etruscan cities par excellence. It still preserves many vestiges of this period as well as the Roman and medieval ones: the etruscan Porta all'Arco, the Roman theater, Piazza dei Priori, the cathedral and baptistery, and tower-houses. Volterra holds an immense treasure trove of art, archaeology, and craftsmanship. Volterra was built on high ground which, if it once provided security, today allows you to enjoy an impressive panorama.
For craft lovers, we can arrange a visit to an alabaster workshop.

Departure Point
Piazza Martiri della Libertà, 56048 Volterra PI, Italy
Piazza dei Priori, Volterra, Italy It is the heart of the city. This square is overlooked by the most important buildings of the Communal Age such as Palazzo dei Priori, Palazzo Pretorio. Many traces are still visible that tell of this era. 20 minutes
Porta all'Arco, Volterra, Italy Volterra is a perennial archaeological site. It was a rich and powerful Etruscan city and fortunately still preserves some traces of this era such as Porta all'Arco, a rare example of an Etruscan city gate. 20 minutes
Cathedral of Volterra, Volterra, Italy This square is overlooked by the city's most important religious buildings such as the Cathedral, the Baptistery and the former Hospital. Volterra boasts the birth of the second pope after St. Peter, St. Linus. Not surprisingly, his evangelization was so early that he founded an equally early diocese that would become influential and rich throughout the Middle Ages and beyond.
Our walk includes only a visit to the square and does not include a tour inside the buildings.
20 minutes
Teatro Romano, Volterra, Italy Volterra remained an important city even after its conquest by the Romans. Many finds testify to this, especially the presence of buildings such as the baths and the Roman theater.
We will talk about the theater from a vantage point that allows its explanation without going inside.

What an amazing tour we had☺️ Luiza is a true lover of Volterra, she knows this beautiful town’s history, buildings, stories, and the people inside out. It was a pleasure to spend our time with her and to get to know this Tuscan gem a little deeper. Definitely recommended, would book tours with her any time if we return.

We found this private tour on Trip Advisor and it was worth every penny! Luisa was our guide and you could tell that she loves the city of Volterra. She has a PhD in archaeology and an amazing way of imparting her knowledge in a friendly and engaging way. Even my teenage daughter thought the tour was awesome! (her words, not mine...) And after a full tour of the city, Luisa called the owner of a local alabaster shop so we could stop by and see how the beautiful sculptures were made. The tour was personalized to our interests (architecture for my husband), and was just a delightful way to spend a beautiful afternoon overlooking the gorgeous Tuscan landscape. Highly, highly recommend! Thank you, Luisa!
