Our Uffizi visit had to be on the first day of school holidays so the gallery was packed. However our private tour guide Anna refused to let that interfere: she made light of the difficulties and led us unflappably from treasure to treasure, swiftly filling in the historical context and showing us what the symbolism and characterisations in the paintings would have signified to the people of their time. All this with a humorous take on Florentine history and the rivalry with Siena, where we’re going next. Highly recommended!
