Gallerie Degli Uffizi, Florence, Italy The Uffizi Gallery (Italian: Galleria degli Uffizi) is a prominent art museum located adjacent to the Piazza della Signoria in the Historic Centre of Florence in the region of Tuscany, Italy. One of the most important Italian museums and the most visited, it is also one of the largest and best known in the world and holds a collection of priceless works, particularly from the period of the Italian Renaissance.
After the ruling house of Medici died out, their art collections were gifted to the city of Florence under the famous Patto di famiglia negotiated by Anna Maria Luisa, the last Medici heiress. The Uffizi is one of the first modern museums. The gallery had been open to visitors by request since the sixteenth century, and in 1765 it was officially opened to the public, formally becoming a museum in 1865.
Today, the Uffizi is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Florence and one of the most visited art museums in the world. 90 minutes

It took over an hour just to get into the museum after starting late and then the guide kept talking about the David at the Accademia. What? We were at the Uffizi. We left after 1.5 hours and still not having seen Venus. Disappointing.

We had to wait 30 minutes to get into the gallery because there were so many other tours ahead of us. I believe the tour was cut short because of that. Also the guide was impossible for any of us to understand. So it was a complete waste of time and money. One good thing though was that she recommended an excellent restaurant in the area and made a reservation for me.

Definitely worth the price to get quick entry and a well-informed guide to take us not just to the big highlights but to key works and rooms to bring out the important moments in the development of Rinascimento art. Rosa was an entertaining and humorous guide who worked hard to engage interest at every point. Once the tour itself was over we were free to explore the Gallery for as long as we liked. It wasn't as big as we expected and most of the paintings were the routine religious themes, but of course the Botticellis are stupendous and there was so much beauty in every room. Tour arrangements were straightforward though the collection point is a little way from the Gallery, meaning a dodge through streets heaving with tour parties, so it's important to arrive in good time.
