Laurent is certainly an interesting, somewhat eccentric, individual. Spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable. Although our tour wasn't quite what we had expected, we had a great time and enjoyed it very much. The city of Arles was so interesting and were able to browse their Saturday market. There was a photography art show (follow the numbers throughout the city). We did not have time to explore all of this; but were amazed at this old city which is known as an art mecca. I wish we had known we were going to Arles before our tour. We would have studied up so as to be able to appreciate it more. As I mentioned, the tour wasn't exactly as we had expected. We were taken to several shops for shopping (which we didn't exactly want or need, but we did buy a few things. We were very disappointed we only went to one winery. However, we bought wine, cheese, sausage & baguette, and were taken to the bridge where VanGogh painted "Le Pont de Langlois aux Lavandiered". We all enjoyed and appreciated this diversion very much. Cars, riding by, would honk and wave at us. It was a full day. We learned so much and fully enjoyed our time.
Laurent recommended a restaurant called L'Esplaï du Grand Bar des Goudes for Bouillabaisse. He even called and made the reservation for us as they only accept phone reservations. It was in Des Goudes and at least 30 min. by Uber from where we were staying in Marseille. The restaurant and food were fantastic! It is in a very small fishing village area and so quaint. However, getting back late at night cost almost $100US. We all felt it was worth the trip, but again, you should be aware if you ever have the opportunity to go. Amazing food! And, if you have your own car, no problem to get there and back. Unless you drink as much as we do!
Be aware, lunch (in this case our wine, cheese, etc.) as well as admission to Carriérs des Lumières are on your own. So add that into the total cost of this tour.
