Built by the light. We booked this discovery and visit at La Maison du Visiteur. It was a very enriching experience! It was so well organized - introduction, film, presentation of the basilica’s features and proportions. It is one of the most naturally well lit churches I’ve ever visited! Kudos to our guide - so knowledgeable and answered everyone’s questions.

Perched high on top of a hill in the centre of the picturesque village of Vezelay the Basilica has an ornate entrance and once inside the church has high, ornate ceilings and windows. It is large and peaceful. The main entrance involves steps but there may be a side entrance for wheelchairs.

Our guide was fabulous, very knowledgeable and really brought alive the intricacies of the Basilica, we became totally absorbed and lost all track of time. A fabulous way to learn about Vezelay. The Maison du Visiteur are enthusiasts and this makes their tours the best.
