From Bangkok : Kanchanaburi Tour with Floating market Visit

WOW! What a fantastic day. What a great experience! We honestly didnt know what to expect on this tour. Its not unheard of, to not quite get what you pay for or expect, considering when the booking is made & paid for on blind trust. But I have to say,  there's absolutely no need to have concerns of any type as we immediately were put at ease & felt super comfortable & excited for the day after being greeted by our professional & very friendly, Bangkok born & raised tour guide, Gwen.  Jumping aboard Mr Orr's luxurious Limo look & all the trimmings transport that has a roof lining any nightclub would be proud of, we were even more excited, anticipating this tour was going to be something special!  And it was! Very special! Gwen shared her immense knowledge of history, culture, traditions, of things modern & new & of everything old & mysterious. An experience in food, people, places, and anything you wanted to know,  Gwen had it covered - including organising all the tickets for all activities, making sure we had the best spots everytime for a feed the soul & also that, instagram picture perfect  moment!  Attentive & genuinely considerate of our needs in a sweltering 43 degrees, we were well & truly cared for all day.   Thank you Gwen & Mr Orr, you gifted us a day we will remember for all the best reasons, with great memories to relive & new understandings to talk about for years to come.

A great day trip and one worth doing despite it being a long day. Our guide Gwen was lovely, very informative and a pleasure to be with. Both she and our driver Mr O were professional but very easy going. Our day started with a stop off at the Maeklong railway market. What an experience, definitely worth seeing! Next stop was a boat ride through the floating markets at Damnoan Saduak, Charoen Sukkho, and Khut Lat Ratchaburi. It was lovely hearing from Gwen about the history of the markets and about Thai culture. We then visited the war cemetery at Kanchanaburi. Paying our respects to the allied soldiers and local civilians who died building the Death Railway whilst under captivity of the Japanese in WW2. Our next stop was lunch at a floating Thai restaurant overlooking the infamous bridge over the river Kwai. Gwen made some helpful suggestions for lunch based on our personal preferences. Food was gorgeous and very reasonably priced. After lunch we walked across the bridge to the other side of the river. It was quite emotional seeing the remains of a Japanese POW camp where the ill fated prisoners were held whilst building the railway. Our final stop was a short journey on the death railway. One of the most scenic parts of the railway as it runs past the river, but also an area where reality hits home about the challenges those building the railway Gwen was always at hand explaining the history and cultural parts of our journey, as well as always making the most of photo opportunities. It was a pleasure spending the day with her knowledge and experience, and in the capable hands of Mr O and his driving.

A day packed with amazing experiences with a great guide - Lucky. The railway market was super exciting - unbelievable how it all operates. The floating market was bustling and busy on the water. Lots of choice for lunch here. Then onto a sobering stop at the Commonwealth World War graves in Kanchanaburi. Seeing the Bridge over the River Kwai was a reminder of the hardship and many lives lost. Private travel in a Mitsubishi SUV made the long distances travelled very comfortable.
