    Located in the center of the island, the Caldeira is the true ex-libris of Faial. It is one of the largest volcanic craters in the Azores, and which was at the origin of the island, measuring around 2000 meters in diameter, 7000 meters in perimeter and 400 meters deep. In this impressive place you will have the possibility to take a short walk, take unique photos or simply observe what the force of nature can create.

    Visit to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island with views of Pico, S. Jorge and Graciosa islands. This is the largest volcanic sand beach in Faial and one of the largest in the Azores. You will have free time at this location. You can choose to have a drink at a local cafe, take a walk along the beach, around the parish, or take a swim in our temperate waters. From here we will head for lunch at a local restaurant, away from the typical tourist routes so you can have a more authentic experience.

  • Capelinhos, Portugal
    A place of great volcanic beauty. The Capelinhos Volcano is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Atlantic, particularly in the Azores. Its landscape takes us to a lunar environment. Enjoy the contrast of the grey sands with the green of the mountains and the blue of the sky and sea. In this unique place you will have free time to explore the area. You can choose to visit the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre, stroll through the sands and volcanic ash, see the Capelinhos Lighthouse with its first floor still underground, or take a walk on the Costado da Nau (the area where the island of Faial ended before the eruption).

    Still in Capelinhos, we will visit the Natural Pools of Porto do Comprido. These pools were formed by basalt rocks, which resulted from the solidification of incandescent lava in the sea. We will pass by the whale village that once existed in this location but is now almost completely buried by volcanic sand and ash. In the 19th century, Porto do Comprido was one of the most important whaling stations in the Azores archipelago.

Ramiro was an amazing guide, very personable and informative. All the places we went were very interesting and gave us great experience of the beautiful island Faeal. The lunch was delicious, and the size of the group was ideal as well. We had a great day, thank you, Ramiro!

The tour guide was exceptional. Whilst guiding us around the key places of interest on this beautiful island, he allowed us to move at our own pace, letting us absorb exactly the amount of detail we needed before moving on. Lunch, which is included in the price, was at an excellent buffet style restaurant, and the food was very good. He was very proud of his homeland, and shared stories of growing up in a place of beauty, experiences of earthquakes, and the amazing way that the community pulls together at these times. There is a sense of complete peace and calm on this island, amazing as it has a volcano only 65 years old. The museum built at this location is incredibly buried into the rock, and again, an added point of interest to the tour. I never post on trip advisor, but felt inclined to as this company are absolutely spot on

We are very pleased to have found TrilhosR on our web search for tours in Faial. Our day was prepared well in advance by Ramiro and totally customized according to our needs. We booked a private tour, once we have 3 small children. We wanted to have our time and cover the main attractions with flexibility. Ramiro paid attention to every detail, and allowed us to enjoy every moment at our own pace, without any rush. We also participated in all the small decisions along the way. He mastered to conciliate a professional presence with an easy going style, making us feel as his own relatives or as if we were visiting an old friend who lives in another place he loves. Ramiro is very happy to show the island he was born and grew up, mixing old memories and stories, well-trained eyes, and a broad knowledge in history, biology, geology and sociology, that results from his academic degree, post graduation courses, self-learning and experience. We highly recommend TrilhosR for your visit in Faial.
