Visit of Cesis, Sigulda and Turaida Medieval Castles. As well beautiful city centre of Cesis and Sigulda. Please note that licensed guide service is not included in this tour. Our English speaking driver will give basic info, answer your questions, lead to the ticket offices and will advise best local restaurants for lunch if needed. If licensed guide is requested it can be arranged at the sights that we will be visiting, please inform us in advance if such service is needed and we will book guide service at additional cost. Please note that from 1st of November to 30th of April Cesis Castle museum and Āraiši lake dwelling site is closed on Mondays. During this time we will be able to see Castle only from outside, we'll do walk thru Cesis old town part.

  • Araisi Lake Dwelling Site, Cesis, Latvia
    Āraiši lake dwelling site is a tourist location with original and reconstructed remnants of Latvian prehistory. It is a unique nationally important archaeological site with remains of the 9th–10th centuries Latgalian fortified settlement. Today the lake dwelling is partially reconstructed and visitors can see rebuilt prehistoric Latgalian wooden buildings. During the excavations, remains of 151 wooden buildings were discovered, with 3700 artifacts and about a hundred thousand fragments of pottery. Using collected data, ethnographic parallels and replicas of ancient tools, today there are 14 reconstructed buildings of the first period of the construction of the fortified settlement. Site is a member of the EXARC organization of open-air archaeological museums throughout Europe.

Normanse was a good companion and guide, very personable and knowledgeable. One of the sites was closed for repairs so he adjusted according to what I wanted to do.

Quite nice day trip to Castles. The driver speaks good English and has wide knowledge to introduce Latvia and local life. Nice talking to him. He also took us to good cafe and bakery shops in Cesis as the Castle opens later during holiday. Thanks to the driver, we had our first taste of birch juice, I feel like a little bit taste of coconut juice. Unfortunately the castles are mostly ruins, not much to see, more like Parks.
